"When is the Living God With Us?"
TEXT: Deut. 17:6, 19:15; Matt. 18:16; 1 Tim. 5:19; Heb. 10:28
TRUTHS:
1.The Bible conveys how to worship God (relating to His presence and revelation rightly). Therefore, the Bible gives humanity laws that should inform how we view and treat God and others. To get such things correct we must understand that, as believers, we are “kings and priests.” Meaning, we do the necessary and difficult task of dealing with sin (both personal sin and the sin of others).
2. “By two or three witnesses” first shows up in Deut. 17. What does it say and/or imply in that text? It is pointing us towards understanding that the mention of numerical witnesses is related to a legal decision that was made by priests and judges. We once again see the Bible directing us towards how to view and deal with sin.
3. The following are forbidden practices that are mentioned in Deut. 17: (1) do not offer “leftovers” in worship, (2) spiritism, (3) false worship, and (4) providing a false witness (lying).
4. Our enemy is always trying to sow heartache, pain, and strife within our individual family units. He desires parents, spouses, children, siblings, and all other familial relationships to have discord and disunity characterizing them. The Lord does call us to navigate this issue so that we learn to love and forgive (which prepares us for eternity).
5. When going through a difficult season, remember to earnestly pray the following: “God, what are You teaching me? What are you showing me?”
6. How do we operate as a Kingdom of priests? We do the following: (1) we repent and forgive, (2) we show love and bring peace, (3) we don’t lift ourselves up, and (4) we are faithful in coming to worship God.
7. In order to loose heaven we must be an honest and truth-telling people.
TALK TO EACH OTHER:
1. How should believers deal with personal sin? What about the sin of others? Do we always deal with sin in those ways, or does it change depending on the specific sin and circumstance?
2. What does it mean to offer "leftovers" in our worship of God? How does this happen in our modern context?
3. Are there any truths, realities, and/or Bible verses that equip us to rightly deal with the challenges talked about in 'Truth 4'?
4. Why should we pray the content that is mentioned in 'Truth 5' when walking through a difficult season of life?
5. Why is God so concerned with His people telling the truth? Why does He hold His children to such a high standard concerning this issue?
TALK TO GOD:
Pray into the following areas:
Dealing with sin rightly (self and others)
Honesty and truth-telling
To be full of love, peace, repentance, and joy
