"The Blessed Life (Tree of Life)"
TEXT: Deut. 28-30; Deut. 30:19
TRUTHS:
1. What is the primary ‘benefit’ of coming to salvation? You get God.
2. Every follower of Christ must get the Word of God into their minds and souls. If one discerns that they have no desire for the Word of God, it would be wise to begin to pray that the Lord helps cultivate such a desire in our lives.
3. Our physical life and health are primarily based upon what we consume (eat and drink). This is equally true concerning the health of our souls. Meaning, our souls are impacted by what we allow and put into our minds.
4. Prayer is not about how eloquent you sound while addressing your Heavenly Father. Our chief concern regarding prayer should be striving to be authentic, honest, and genuine before God (and others when applicable).
5. Some people wrongly assume that the God of the Old Testament and that Jesus of the New Testament are different in their character and nature. This is not consistent with what the truth that Word of God teaches and presents to us. For God does not change, and furthermore, it appears as if the warnings of the NT are more “intense” in nature than those of the OT.
6. It is easy to assume that our personal sin or righteousness only impacts ourselves. But that is not what the Bible lays out from Genesis to Revelation. Our sin and righteousness impact the people and the world around us in significant ways.
TALK TO EACH OTHER:
1. "You get God." What does this phrase mean and imply about salvation and the purpose of our lives?
2. How has the Lord cultivated a desire for His Word in your heart and life? In what ways do you sense the Spirit drawing you to the Word of God? Think of both the past and the present.
3. How does what we put into our minds inevitably end up impacting and determining the health of our souls? What does that process practically look like for the average believer?
4. How would you explain 'Truth 4' to a new believer who is struggling to see the consistent nature of God that is presented in both the Old and New Testaments?
5. Can you think of examples (personal or generic) that illustrate how one's personal sin or righteousness impacts the world around them? Or what would you say to someone who mentions that their sin is not a big deal because it "isn't hurting anyone else but me!"
TALK TO GOD:
Pray into the following areas:
The right heart in prayer
A deep and growing desire for God's Word
A desire for God's presence
Wisdom about all that we consume
