"Don't be a Knucklehead!"
TEXT: Genesis 1-6
TRUTHS:
1. The children of God do not think in the same way(s) as the unbelieving world. Our worldview sets us apart from unbelievers and enables us to be “salt and light” before those who are separated from Christ and His gospel.
2. As a Christian, you own nothing, it has been “borrowed” from God. This implies that we have been called to manage (or steward) all that God has provided for us.
3. Your personal view of sin is one of the most important aspects of your humanity and belief system. Your view and definition of sin, along with how one should respond to and handle sin, shapes so much of your life and decision-making.
4. What is behind the “fallenness” of our world? The heartache, the struggle, the temptations, and tragedies that are so visible in our modern world? The Bible reveals that there are powerful, fallen (evil), and unseen spiritual beings who seek to ‘rob’ humanity of the dominion that God has given to us. And as far as those spiritual beings are concerned, we (humanity) are standing in their way (which creates the spiritual warfare that routinely experience). But the name and power of Jesus, who has been given all authority, causes them to retreat and hide (which can be understood as them surrendering dominion).
5. How are the beast, the antichrist, and the spirit of the age responsible for the brokenness we see in our world? How do they carry out their plan of steering humanity away from their God-given dominion and from personal involvement in God’s plan of redemption? They accomplish their evil work by tempting humanity to sin, and to continue transgressing, without realizing their need for repentance. Unrepentant sin causes humanity to surrender the dominion that God desires for us to have.
6. Being filled with anxiety and fear is often a sign that one has filled their thoughts with the wrong content. We also need to remember that humans are complex creations, and there are many physical factors that contribute to the amount of fear and anxiety we personally experience throughout our lives.
TALK TO EACH OTHER:
1. What are some 'distinctives' of the Christian worldview? How do they differ from widely accepted views of the world (represented by the unbelieving world)? How does having a biblical worldview enable you to be salt and light?
2. What are the implications of 'Truth 2' in our daily and routine lives? What motivations should such a reality produce in our hearts? What actions should this truth motivate us towards?
3. What are the first things you think of when considering how your view of sin impacts your life? Should every believer have the exact same view of the nature of sin, or will/should it differ from believer to believer?
4. How do the powers of spiritual wickedness 'obscure' our need for repentance? How do they "blind" humanity from seeing the power and benefits of personal and corporate repentance?
5. What do you consider to be the biggest "culprits" of causing fear and anxiety? What are examples of "wrong content" (that believers should refrain from filling their minds with)? Additionally, how can one discern the source of their fear and anxiety (is it physical and/or spiritual)?
TALK TO GOD:
Pray into the following areas:
A deep and holy hunger for God's Word and revelation
To have a proper understanding and view of sin
To be quick to repent
Wisdom concerning what we fill our minds with
